Mommy Brain?

So I made a really special little social faux paus which I thought I would share with you all here, because I know you, Lisa, will particularly enjoy it!
So I'm at the Y the other night in the locker room, preparing for water aerobics with my friend Jess, when a woman I recognize comes in with her two girls and says "hi" to me. And I hit this giant mental blank and cannot for the life of me think of her name. But she has a haircut very similiar to a woman my husband works with, Lisa, and I know that Lisa has kids around these kids' ages, and so that is the name my mouth settled on blurting out. "Jess, this is Lisa from Jim's office," I introduced cheerily.
And realized an hour later that I know this woman from church, that she most definitely was NOT named Lisa nor related to Jim's office in any way, and now I feel like a complete moron. Does anyone have advise as to what to say to this woman when I see her next? Do I just pretend it never happened, and make a point of using her CORRECT name, or do I address the issue of my own awfulness and apologize?

Oh! I did something similar to this once! What I did (after I died of shame and fell into a hole in the earth and stayed up nights kicking myself) was, the next time I saw her I put my hand on her arm and I said, "I DO know who you are! I DO! Last time I saw you, my brain short-circuited or I had a stroke or possibly that wasn't even me! I saw you out of context and it threw me! But I know that you are Shannon and that you are from my church!"

It depends on whether she said anything or not. If not, then I wouldn't point it out. I would just make a deal of calling her by name the next time I saw her. If she did seem to care, then maybe do what Swistle said. Yep, that's what I would do.

I would let it go and make a point of using her real name the next time you are around her. Then, if she brings it up, I would apoligize and blame it on the hormones :)

That made me laugh at 8:40 on Thursday morning (which doesn't happen too often). Thanks for posting that. I definitely agree with both swistle and mommy daisy on how to handle it the next time you see her.

I think we have all done something like that before. I would just make it a point to call her and fess up to your error. I think she would appreciate the effort. Blame it on the pregnancy. I used to say that the umbilical cord was directly linked to my brain to account for some of the things I said and did.

I too like Swistle's idea.
