In Which My Self-Esteem Takes A Hit

Well, I felt like a real genius today, when I reached into my purse to pull out the car keys and realized they were still on the kitchen counter. I felt even more brilliant as I ran around to all three doors and realized that like a good, safety-conscience citizen I had locked them all before leaving. I climbed back into the car and grimly pulled out the cell phone- at least I hadn't left THAT on the counter too!
It's always fun to make phone calls wherein you have to tell people about your embarrassing screw-ups and have them come and rescue you. If I had, say, sprained an ankle and was lying wanly on the driveway, I would have no problem calling Jim and letting him know of my damsel in distress status. I might even enjoy being rescued in this particular scenario. But I do not enjoy having to be rescued from my own stupidity.
I especially didn't enjoy that it was cold again outside, forcing Addy and I to sit in the car and wait for fifteen minutes, in only five of which Addy was pacified by the contents of her diaper bag.
In more positive news: the TV interview went fairly well, although as expected it was a little freaky to hear my own voice and observe my own little quirks. The way I kept folding and unfolding my hands drove me crazy- I looked so prim! The way I seemed to conclude every sentence with the very eloquent "and stuff." The way I completely fumbled the web address of our organization. But in all, it could have been much, much worse. Still, I have ruled out a career in broadcast journalism.

Oh no! I hate getting locked out of the house. I did that for the first time ever just a few months ago. I locked the door from the inside, toted the baby in his baby seat, the diaper bag, and whatever else outside and pulled to door shut. As soon as I shut it, I thought oh no I don't have my keys. I was going to rummage through the diaper bag, but I knew they were right there on the table. A peek in the window comfirmed that. Then it occurred to me that our neighbor still had a key to our house. We decided to just leave keys to each others houses there for emergencies. Luckily the neighbor is a stay-at-home-dad. And he was actually home and did have the key. Yeah for neighbors.

I'm glad that you did well on TV. I don't think I could ever do an interview on television. Too bad I missed seeing you.

I am the WORST about leaving my keys and/or phone or important item at home/locked in car etc.

It actually got so bad that I took Parents mag advice and made myself a luggage tag for my diaper bag containing a list of all my must haves for leaving the house. I haven't had to make an embarrassing phone call since!

I'm glad your tv interview went well!

I once locked my keys in the car at a job interview. I discovered it after the interview was over, and had to go back inside and hang out in the lobby for, like, an hour to wait for the locksmith.

The interview is so exciting! ON TV! That must have been surreal.

Awwww Chuck I am sorry that I missed your call!! I was sitting in class desperately wishing I was somewhere else. Just remember all those times I shoved my foot so elequently in my mouth at school- now there is a real self-esteem dive if I do say so myself!;) I CANNOT wait to get back home and away from this tourture they call "studying" or even better "the pursuit of knowledge." Ah well give my little Addy a kiss for me and I will see you in a little over a month!! (yay!)

This is why I ask Justin anxiously every time we leave the house, "Do you have your keys?!" Even though he always. does.
