Another One For You

Okay, this one hit me in the shower this morning randomly. Do you guys like the name Carmandy? Here's what I want to know: does it strike you as sort of old fashioned, like a place name or an old surname, or does it strike you as modern and invented? Also, how would you spell it instinctively (Carmandy, Carmendy, Carmondy, Carmindy?) and would you tend towards the nickname Carmen? Or more likely Mandy or Mindy?

I really like this idea, and think it's a name that goes well with our other kids' names and our last name, but the spelling issue really annoys me. Also, I don't think I like the nn Mindy very well. I like Mandy ok, and I like that the -y ending goes with the other kids' nicknames, but I also like Carmen a lot. Just not sure if it "goes" as well. Carmy, maybe?

Help!

I think it has name potential! My first reaction was that it seemed like more of a boy name than a girl name, but the nicknames make it pretty definitely a girl name.

For spelling, I'd first find out how it was "supposed to be" spelled: that is, is it a surname or a place or both, and what are those spellings? I might also consider the spelling of the name Carmen. But I'd also be heavily influenced by which nickname I wanted to use.

I like the name! I think it's a good combination of both the types you described... old fashioned/surnamish OR possibly modern/invented... a good in between!!
I like Carmandy the best, that would be my instinctive way to spell it... the Carmendy makes sense if going of off Carmen, and then Carmondy and Carmindy make it seem more surnamish I think.

And what about the nickname Minny/Minnie?? That's pretty stinkin' cute!

I like it.

The make-up artist on What Not To Wear is Carmody. But you can't really nickname that spelling.

I think I prefer Mandy, too.

So... here's hoping you wanted honest feedback :)

I don't like it. It feels bad to say it. It also feels made-up and not in a quaint way. I like some of your other choices much more.

I vote Carmendy for spelling.

I think it's ok. It's not what I would choose, but it has a lot going for it. It has sort of a Surname/Place Name feel to me.

I would absolutely let the spelling of Carmen influence me, unless you want to direct the outcome of any nicknames, such as wanting "Mandy" to be a nickname.

I was wondering--what do you think of the name Camilla? It sort of feels between Carmendy/ Carmandy and Magnolia to me. It has a light floral association as well as that old-fashioned charm that I think you like. It also has some adorable nickname choices: Cami, Millie, Milla, etc.

Its okay. My first thought was not plesant. However, with the nicknames, I feel it does have potential.

Love the name. I think it fits both categories (old and new). Spell it the way it is traditionally spelled. Heck my name is Mary and I get asked how to spell it WAY too often! How about the nickname of Cammy?

After reading the above, the Nn Cami is my fave. It goes with your other babe's nicknames and your last name....with that, I guess I check my ballet on Camilla. (But I do like Carmandy better than Magnolia).

Pretty sure the makeup artist on What Not to Wear is Carmindy. And yeah, honestly it sounds weird and made-up to me right now. But if you used it, very quickly it would become unique and interesting. Once there's an actual cute baby face to go with a name, a lot of times the name is more palatable. :)

Oooooh. I like Camilla. Milla is such a great nickname! Camilla gets my vote over Carmendy.

I was thinking about it this morning and if I saw Carmandy I would probably pronounce it Car + Mandy, but if I saw Carmendy I would pronounce it Car + mindy.

I think it has potential! The make-up artist on WNTW is Carmindy. I like Carmi as a nn. CUTE.

P.S. I tagged you in a meme, since you're on such a posting roll.

Carmindy (or however you spell it)makes me think of the make up artist on What not to Wear. So, definitely not made up, but I I don't really think of it super-old fashioned either.

I do like the nickname Mindy--probably because I've known some very nice people named Mindy. Also cute is the nickname Minnie if you can put the mouse out of your mind.
