Well, there will be pictures of the birthday later, for those who care (approximately four of you) but for now there is this: my effing washing machine overflowed this morning, covering the laundry room floor, the kitchen floor, and an edge of the carpeted hallway within about three minutes of my turning it on. Please understand that the laundry room is LARGE. It's almost as big as the kitchen. It was a LOT of floor. So, there is now not a single clean towel in the house, since guess what was in the machine to begin with? A load of towels. Hope no one wants a shower anytime soon. Or, you know, CLEAN CLOTHES.
This happened to Jim while I was gone a few weeks ago, but it was all cleaned up by the time I got home, so I think I failed to appreciate the full aggravation of it. Well, we are even now, my dear. Also, I hope you can fix it again.
Because I really don't want a new washing machine for my birthday.
Our dryer has been nuts lately too- half the time it gets stuck halfway through the cycle, overheats, and will continue running forEVER unless you remember to go stop it. Luckily nothing's been shrunk too horribly yet, but we've wasted plenty of electricity and unnecessarily heated up the house many, many times. Yay for appliances.

I hate that those things seem to happen all at once. It's like one starts to freak out and makes all the others get wonky too. Bah.
Now you have to tell us the brand so we can NEVER BUY IT.
Also, our washer/dryer have been out for a week for a much more luxurious reason (drywall going up in what will be a combination bathroom and laundry room), but I am about to lose! my! mind! Seriously, if we had a creek I would be eyeballing it for its clothes-washing possibilities.
Ugh, so frustrating! Can you Twitter about it? ;)
Swistle and Pickles and Dimes beat me to it ...
Also, this happened to us right after we moved into our old apartment -- dirty towels in washer, water all over the floor -- and my husband used the rest of our dirty clothes -- INCLUDING MY UNDERWEAR -- to sop up the mess until the maintenance guy came. I was ready to kill him.
So sorry that the washing machine overflowed. I've never had the experience, but I'm sure it's awful.
OMG Hillary! That is hysterical! Your story really made me laugh -- hard!
You should tweet about it... worked for Dooce! ;)
Everyone else beat me to it. We're so funny. :)
It must be the moon (don't we blame everything on the moon?) because my dryer didn't want to dry this week-end. Husband unclogged to hose...but I think it's on it's 9th life!
Can't wait to see BD pictures!
Ugh, stupid things. I'm surprised our washing machine hasn't fried yet. It's already over 8 years old. We replaced our dryer a year or so ago, and it was bought about the same time. Thank goodness for an emergency fund though, it was easy to replace it with no worry about where the money would come from. I hope that yours gets fixed quickly. That's one appliance that you can't be without for long at all.
Washing machines are doing to be like, the inside joke of the mom-blog world for a while, but I'm sorry you have to be on the end of a broken one. Yuck!
I hope all is restored to order soon, in the meantime, I'm going to fantasize about the huge laundry room I'd like to have someday...
Oh, this sucks!
That sucks! We just replaced both our washing machine and dryer recently, so I feel your pain. (We managed it without Twitter, FYI, or the phrase, "Do you know who I am?")
Kelsey: the huge laundry room IS great, but kind of DISPROPORTIONATELY large for the size of our house. I'd happily chop it in half to have a SECOND BATHROOM instead!
Hi-- thinking of you today, hoping for a GREAT ultrasound!
