For All You Front Rowers Out There

Heaven help me, I'm doing this twice a week now. And I LIKE it. What has the world come to that I like ANY form of exercising?
I was originally doing hi/lo aerobics, but I quickly discovered that in that class I spent more mental energy frantically trying to remember the fancy-pants steps ("and lindy to the RIGHT!") and much less energy trying to keep going physically. So I switched to the Zumba class, which is WAAAAYYY more fun and also a better workout. I'm actually psyched to go tomorrow.
Here is my question for you all (I am looking at YOU, Tessie): what do you wear when you work out? If I were home I would just rock out in pajama pants and a sports bra, probably, but I'm at an actual gym where there are tiny little blonds running around in coordinating outfits with moisture wicking and what not (I get a good view of these women because they are of course always the ones in the front row, whereas I am firmly in the middle-to-back row,) and here I am in my yoga pants, circa 1998, and an oversized tee shirt. How do I gradually upgrade my workout wardrobe without breaking the bank?

I wear cheap cotton shorts from Target, a sports bra, and an Old Navy ribbed tank top. It's inexpensive and it does the trick.

TJMaxx has some great workout gear for cheap.

Yeah for finding a workout that you like. I'd wear what you were, but I don't go to the gym either. Good luck.

I'd wear whatever was most comfy and not worrying about the coordinated sweaters. Why waste money to sweat all over something and make it smell bad?

Congrats on finding a work out you like!

Okay, not coordinated sweaters (like the ones you wear), but those who are sweating...just to clarify.

I wear exactly what you wear, so I'm of no assistance here.

When I was going to gym classes, I would break out the ancient tshirts and a pair of yoga pants, too, so again: I'm not much help. Although Jess, at the top, seems to have a good idea. My thought is if you're going to spend money, make sure you have a comfortable sports bra and good shoes; the rest can surely be picked up on clearance racks at good old Target.

Well, you should definitely not do what *I* do, which is to impulse purchase any workout clothes that catch your eye, regardless of appropriateness or cost.

I would start a pair of good capris or yoga pants or similar. I have a pair from Old Navy that I really like, so they don't have to be expensive.

Assuming you have a good sports bra, which is super important, I don't see anything wrong with the t-shirt/yoga pants combo. Lots of people wear that. I would say that's the number one gym rat outfit of choice, and I would know.

Also, what the hell is a Lindy?

Tessie: Clearly, I have no idea, as this was always the point in the choreographed routine in which I got hopelessly confused.

I'm a big fan of yoga pants and tank tops. I figure if I'm color-coordinated, I'm trying too hard.
