What Doesn't Kill You...

Gripe The First: Still no word on the house, either ours or the one we're hoping to buy. I guess that's at least half good news.

Gripe The Second: In other (fully BAD) news, both children have disgusting, virulent colds and have been miserable, mucusy little cling-ons for the last two days. I feel awful for them, especially Eli, who is particularly congested and who gasps and chokes every time he tries to nurse because he cannot simultaneously drink AND breathe. He's not eating or sleeping well, and spends the majority of his waking time wailing in heartbreaking misery. You know, I always thought my mom was just being noble when she said she'd rather be sick than have us be sick, but now I get it. And it's not a purely unselfish thing (i.e. I'd rather suffer than watch you suffer.) A lot of it is just common sense, too. Given the choice between dealing with my own cold and trying to help a (shh, already somewhat cranky) infant deal with his cold, I would infinitely prefer to be sick.

Gripe The Third: Addy is being even more finicky about food than usual, which is her main symptom when ill. All she wants to eat is Cheerios and applesauce, and frankly I'm fine with that, but it makes the whole ordeal of dinner and lunch just that- an ordeal. We're trying to establish some sort of "try at least a bite" rule, but so far the score is Addy-100, Parents-1 or 2.

Gripe The Fourth: The weather around here had been glorious and sunny and warm for a few days, and I was being lulled into a false sense of spring. Then, Friday afternoon, it started raining and being cold and gray and gloomy again. I'm trying to take heart, as the sun IS currently shining, but spring has been an unfaithful lover one too many times. My heart is growing hard to her persuasive charms now- I know she's just going to betray my trust again.
But I DID put Addy's new spring clothes in her drawer today, so I guess despite my mental resistance, I am beginning to weaken yet again. What can I say? The heart wants what it wants, and in this case it wants darling little polka dot skorts and tiny tee shirts with ruched sleeves.
Oh, spring. I wish I could quit you.

Seriously, with the spring! It's gorgeous one minute and I'm searching for a scarf the next. Can we commence with sundress season already?

And you poor thing with the colds! That really sucks. Here's to hoping the kids get healthy soon. I'm sure the constant change in temperatures is not helping anything.

ALSO, I would rather that I was sick because when *I* take medicine, I don't regurgitate it in huge angry fountains of disgust.

AND, I am totally willing to watch TV all day.

Really and truly, Seattle has had one - ONE - sunny warmish day in the last 89843232789 days. I am ready for SPRING PLEASE.

1) Two of mine are sick, too: coincidentally the toddler girl and the baby boy.

2) That IS spring: sunny and warm one day, cold and rainy the next. I think you're looking for SUMMER.

Oh ick. Seriously - sick small people are THE WORST. The snot and the whining and the pitifulness. And did I mention the whining?

Hope that every is better soon - and that Mama Nature gets her act together PRONTO!

Oooh, I hope all the sick is gone soon. And that the clouds/rain/cold go on a long vacation.

Eeek. Good luck with all that :(

Sorry about the house thing. I hope it all works out.

I don't mind spring rain and grayness - I do mind spring SNOW and WHITENESS. Bah.

It's even colder down here in the deep south. I am so confused by this since by April we're usually all warm weather.

Maybe you can suspend the trying new foods thing when Addiy is sick?

I HATE HATE HATE it when Charlie has a cold. I feel so bad for him, and of course, he can't take cold medicine.

I re-read my comment. I don't mean that it's colder here than where you are; I mean that it's colder here than it has been. I didn't want to say it was COLD becuase I don't think 70 is actually considered cold. I shouldn't type before I've had caffeine.

Spring is so fickle. And yet, I love her.
I would way rather be sick too. Less work for me all around.

we have the same problem with our one bite "rule" (which I use loosely because in order for it to be a rule someone has to actually enforce it)

Ugh, almost nothing sucks worse than mucusy cling-ons (oh, how I laughed at that phrase, though).

Elliot has a list of about 10 foods she'll put on her refined palate, so I feel your pain there.

I also, sadly, feel your pain about sucky spring. It has been gorgeous here off and on, but on the weekend we're supposed to get a snow-storm (WTF?)

Don't worry, if things keep up, eventually you WILL be sick, and they won't be. They'll be better just in time to make your sickness that much better. :)

We had spring for the usual hour and a half this past week. Now it's summer. Ta-daa! I would really enjoy more low-70's, but it never happens.
