This is a little mean, what I'm about to do right here, but I swear to you IT MUST BE DONE. I will go crazy the rest of the day if I don't ask- nay, DEMAND- that you click this link and then tell me honestly what you really think of the wallpaper in Heather Armstrong's new baby's nursery.
Done? Now tell me, go ahead, just try to convince me that that design isn't basically the realization of several childhood NIGHTMARES I've had, come enormously to life on the walls of that helpless child's bedroom.
As a disclaimer, I'll freely admit it: I don't like or even get modern decor very often. For most rooms, I like things to have soft edges and luxurious fabrics and a little bit of fancy or whimsy or old fashioned to them. However I can say with a clear conscience that my terror re: above nursery has nothing to do with modern decor. It has to do with the concept of, in the semi-dark of a nursery illuminated only by the glow of the nightlight, A THOUSAND SHARP-BEAKED BIRDS diving to the ground to pluck out my eyes.
Or is it just me?

I thought they were STING RAYS. True story. That bird thing is even freakier.
While I don't love the exact wallpaper, mostly because you can't see the entire bird, I do love the nursery overall. Very chic.
I see your point. At first I was like "That is pretty in its own way", but the more pictures I saw the more was on your side of "Oh, that's a bit creepy".
OK, I did like it until you said that. Now I totally see your point. I still like it but maybe not for a child's bedroom? Though I'm not sure where else it would be appropriate.
heehee! I dislike the wall paper but I LOVE the crib bedding. So cute!
PS - What ARE those things hanging on the lamp?
devan- I KNOW. They're maybe the scariest of all. I don't know; I guess birds just freak me out, period.
I'm with Tess - I thought they were sting rays, too. But the sheep(?) on the lamp creep me right the freak out!
The birds bother me less than the sheep. I don't really get the whole baby-sheep connection. I mean, I GET it -- innocence and all that -- but I don't like it. Sheep are dumb and kind of dirty.
SDH:
Eye-pecking birds and oddly bloated sheep on the lamp ARE a bit off from your usual baby-soothing or intellectually stimulating themes, but please read paragraph 4 of that post and tell me who in your family that reminds you of . . . :)
I actually LOVE it, and this it is romantic and a little old fashioned. But I also love birds so I would think that wouldn't I?
Hmmmmmm--I don't like to criticize other's decorating ideas, but that room seems kind of busy and random.
I looked at it last night and I am with you- not really my thing, especially for a sweet little baby.
It's not my style at all, but it doesn't creep me out or anything. I like that the whole nursery isn't cutesy or anything.
BUT, it does seem to me that she tries a little too hard to be "modern" or "stylish" in general.
I kind of love it, actually :)
But then again, I sincerely hate most cutesy baby rooms, so that might have a lot to do with it.
The birds? meh. Whatever. The sheep are kinda cool. And I LOVE THOSE FLOWERS by the changing table, but how many days before that child tears them to bits?
hahahaha!
I like the wallpaper, and am a fan of modern decor in general, BUT I also agree with you that the sharp edges of those birdies would have given me nightmares as a kid. But then I had nightmares about the BUTTERFLIES on my wallpaper so perhaps I'm not the best judge...
I'm much more traditional in my tastes so the whole thing was a little much for me, but I LOVE that bed they've got in there.
I will never be reborn as a decorator, that's for sure.
AAAAAAAAAAA THE BIRDS!! THE BIRDS ARE SWOOPING DOWN TO GET MEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!
I thought they were stingrays, too!!! Then I realized they were birds. I think it's a bit much. A few birds are one thing, but that's a whole flock. It kinda made me think that that's a lotta wallpaper bird poop. :)
I really love the dresser, though, and the magnetic flowers.
If there were fewer birds and they weren't swooping/busy, it might not be so bad. I like the wall by the changing table...It's just those birds really--I would be freaked out.
