Season's Greetings

It is snowing for the first time here. I mean, heavy, pelting, sticking to the ground snow. I am so! excited! It looks like a holiday card out there. We are celebrating by eating doughnuts and watching Clark Griswold and family making merry. Nothing like the classics.

Also, I went Christmas shopping this morning for the first time this season. I needed to buy gifts for a holiday get together that is happening NEXT SUNDAY. And now I need to buy WRAPPING PAPER. Is it, like, Christmas time already? What is going ON? Next thing you know I'll be dragging out the tree, and wondering where on earth I'm going to put all the gorgeous Christmas decorations I just had to have from last year's after Christmas sale at Target.

Anyways, it's been awhile since I took a poll, hasn't it? I sense your impatience for another one, my dears, so here we go: When do YOU put up holiday decorations? And what is your family's favorite holiday movie? (My answers, for the record, would be: the day after Thanksgiving, and A Christmas Story. Also, I'm not sure if this counts as a holiday movie, per se, but I always watch Love Actually at Christmastime too.)

Those are MY answers too!

The day after Thanksgiving for decorations. And we can listen to Christmas music for the first time on Thanksgiving day, which is always fun.

I LOVE A CHRISTMAS STORY! "I double dog dare you..."

We put up our decorations the first weekend of December only because I'm still so stuffed the day after Thanksgiving that I can't move very much.

Our favorite movie is "A Christmas Story", but when the kids go to bed, it's "Love Actually" for me. Colin Firth = yum.

oooh, I love Love Actually, but my fave Christmas movie is The Grinch. (the original, not the Jim Carrey one)
We put up our holiday stuff sometime after Thanksgiving, or the first week in December.

I like to spend the long Thanksgiving weekend getting started addressing holiday cards (though I don't finish/mail them until mid-December), and any day after Thanksgiving is fair game for Christmas decorations but it sometimes takes me awhile to actually DO it. Scrooged (with Bill Murray) is my favorite Christmas movie, but it's only for OLDER family (high school and up, probably).

I try to wait till the first of December to put up decorations, but I think anytime after Thanksgiving is totally acceptable.

I still love to watch (the original) How the Grinch Stole Christmas!

Ahh, this snow. I'm going to post pictures later. And right now I'm listening to Christmas music too. Plus we were running errands this morning, and there is Christmas everywhere in stores. It's about here. Zachariah asked me when we got home to put up HIS Christmas tree. ;)

I put up decorations sometime after THanksgiving. We're usually out of town until Saturday sometime, so if I have time I start that day. If not, I do it over the next week.

My favorite Christmas movie is Christmas Vacation. WE love watching that every year. It never gets old. Always good for a laugh.

Oh how I love A Christmas Story. I also kinda like The Santa Clause series.

Our Thanksgiving is in October, so we usually aim to have everything up by the first weekend in December. Homer always wants to do it earlier (like NOW!) but since I'm the one that does most of the decorating, we wait. Did I mention that Homer is Jewish?!

I ADORE Love, Actually but I'd have to say the original Grinch holds a very special place in my heart. I can't wait to show it to Zoe!

I am lazy about xmas decorations. Since we usually spend the holidays flying to family, we usually don't get a tree for ourselves or do a TON of holiday decorating. But I will usually pull out the red (fake)velvet bows and twinkling lights in the first week of December.

It's a bit hard to take all the xmas decorations in the stores out here because they're all wintry and snowflake-y and it's 91 degrees today!

I put up decorations the day after Thanksgiving. I feel like I am cheating Thanksgiving if I decorate for Christmas beforehand.

Christmas Vacation is my favorite for sure!

So jealous of the snow. It is 70 degress and humid here in Massachusetts, at night, in November. Craziness.

We do the day after Thanksgiving, Charlie Brown's Christmas and lots of music.

Unfortunatly, I don't think anyone else in this house would watch Love Actually but me.

I have a strict no Christmas before Thanksgiving rule, but then I get all of it out on the Friday after, if possible, music, movies, decorations, books, etc.

I think White Christmas (aka Holiday Inn) is probably my favorite Christmas move, though I LOVE most of them for kids and adults alike.

I have actually never been a huge fan of A Christmas Story, and I'm not sure I've even seen it all the way through. I'm not a huge fan of Christmas Vacation either. I guess I prefer my Christmas movies a little on the sweet/sappy side.

Hey, I watch Love, Actually at Christmastime, too!!!! I love that movie!

We put our stuff up the weekend after Thanksgiving. It takes almost the whole weekend to do it, too. Usually I wait until around then to break out the cds, too, but this year I got them out early. I like them, dammit. My favorite is the Peter, Paul and Mary one. It's beautiful and unusual. Anyway, I did it early this year because I have found in past years that I am only really emotionally ready for Xmas when it's over, so I thought I'd start earlier this year and maybe be more on-time for the day.

Oh, and my favorite Xmas movie is A Christmas Story, and Charlie Brown.

Jealous- it is supposed to be like 70 this week here.

And Mr. A is dying to put up the tree already, but I say you have to wait until Thanksgiving.

I am going to put up our tree the day after Thanksgiving. I agree, Love Actually is great! :o)

Funny - it was cold when I woke up the other day so I told K that we needed to bundle up and watch Love Actually that night. Lord I love that movie. My other Christmas favorite is Miracle on 34th street (the new one). We also have a tradition of watching Christmas Story while we wrap and put things out on Christmas Eve. We used to do decorations really last minute but O loves to play with all the snow globes and music boxes so we'll probably do it the weekend after Thanksgiving. if we get around to it . . . it requires furniture relocation which I dread

We decorate the day after Thanksgiving, too!

My favorite movies are the original Grinch, Christmas Vacation and Love Actually. LOVE that movie.

Day after Thanksgiving we go to cut down the tree...

and then I guess the Charlie Brown Christmas Special. I do like the movie with the two sisters on the train? White Christmas?

We usually wait until about two weeks before x-mas to put up our decorations (by this time, I'm tired of waiting on hubs and am dragging the stuff out and putting it all up MYSELF).

Fav movie has GOT to be "A Chritsmas Story," but I'm all about "It's a Wonderful Life," too. And YES, I drag out the "Love Actually" and get a LOT of deep sighs of happiness in (um, when hubs is out shoveling the snow or something).

Yay, snow! I am so jealous! I wish it would snow here.

We are still establishing our holiday decoration routine, since this will be only the second year that we've had our own tree. But I'd say we'll go for it in early December so that we can enjoy it all month, especially because we won't be home on Christmas itself or the days right after it to enjoy the tree.

And I have to say, I don't have a favorite holiday movie. I liked Love Actually, though.

The weekend after Thanksgiving weekend. We had it late last year because of the kids and I suspect it will be late this year too. Maybe my tradition is changing?

Latest Christmas tradition for me....buy a hot pink tree on amazon while hopped up on sleeping pills and chicken taquitos

Day after Thanksgiving except this year because we'll be in Arkansas.

I don't have a favorite Christmas movie, but now that you mention it I may make it "love actually."

We generally put up the tree after Thanksgiving...but I got antsy and the tree (sans decorations) is in my dining room ready to rock. My favorite Christmas movie is the original Grinch (and the kids like it too), or Charlie Brown. I also like Holiday Inn or White Christmas. Oh wait, that's four movies...
