Inner Child

I'm a big dollhouse fan. It's not even so much the playing with the dolls in the house, per se, but the arranging of the dolls' stuff in the tiny little houses that I find so magical. I used to drive my friends crazy when I was little, because I never really wanted to play with them. I just wanted them to go dress the dolls and drive them around in their mini coupe while I arranged the furniture to my heart's content.

There was one friend in particular who had a dollhouse I truly coveted. This dollhouse. Every time I went to her house I virtually ignored her in favor of her doll mansion's sprawling terrace and charming old fashioned bathroom fixtures.

Fifteen years later, the charm has not worn off. This exquisitely detailed dollhouse showed up at our house two days ago:

My sweet mom has fulfilled my lifelong dream of owning the Playmobil Mansion. Now I can die happy.

Tragically, though, my mom gave me this gift only with the stipulation that I must share it with her granddaughter:

Oh well. She's pretty good about taking turns.

That is awesome. I love dollhouses too. I would love to collect them from all over the world.

If I bring cookies can I come over to play?!

I am so jealous! One of my favorite things as a child was the Victorian dollhouse at our public library. You couldn't play with it, but I could spend ages just LOOKING at it.

Oh, MAN! (I always just wanted to arrange, too.)

Me too! I was always upset that I didn't have MORE furniture!

I had a really cute dollhouse made by some local sweet old man.

And then my brother trashed it with his cue stick.

No. I still haven't forgiven him.

SHE'S good at taking turns, but the real question is....ARE YOU?

Seriously though, I've forgotten about how much fun these girly things might be. I sure hope I have one someday, so I can play too. For now it's trucks, trains, balls, and such.

Thank you ebay for making this 4 year venture of collecting little dollhouse furniture possible :)

My daughters got a fully furnished doll house from MY mom a few years ago. She bought the house from our neighbor, who made it for his kids but his kids (now grown) didn't want it. (WHA???) Anyway, it was just plain wood, but HUGE and quality built. So she painted it to look like OUR house- it's 2 1/2 stories like our house, with the same number of bedrooms and everything! She even painted bricks on the outside, and the pink and orange stripes like my twins have in their room are replicated in one of the doll house rooms.

She furnished it with Fisher Price's Loving Family stuff, which is quite cute.

Best. Gift. EVER.

And for the first one (or, ok THREE) months, I had to not only pick up the toys around my REAL house, but then go and "straighten" the doll house too.

The end. =)

I must say... I'm so jealous of your Mom! Can I borrow her? :) Love the dollhouse and hope you (and your daughter) have loads of fun arranging and rearranging furniture!

AMAZING! I wanna arrange too! Love it. I SO wanted a dollhouse when I was a kid, but I had to settle for playing with my friends' dollhouses. I really, really, really hope I have a girl at some point, so I can justify buying these sorts of things (and maybe letting her play with me).

I had a less fancy doll house as a kid and also loved to take everything out and rearrange it. We have a wooden doll house in the basement, but I haven't gotten the motivation to track down properly fitting furniture just yet.

I was an arranger too. We had an antique tin dollhouse from my grandfather. My brother would make stop-motion GI Joe movies about the house burning down, I would come in and arrange the furniture. It worked

That is so fun! I got it in my head about 10 years ago that I would like to build and furnish and the whole shebang a dollhouse. And so, Bub bought me one for my birthday. It sits, still in the box, not even opened, in our basement. But I am still SO full of intentions.
